“Teaching” web standards

A couple of great articles from Aarron Walter about “Teaching” web standards, either to educational institutions or business.

Excellent articles that should be used by anyone who needs to convince the powers that be (a.k.a: the bill payers) of the business benefits that web standards will achieve.

The Web Standards Documentary Project is particularly good, as it contains videos of students outlining how they managed to convince their teachers or employers to adopt web standards. There’s a good mix of educational versus business here, coupled with some strong entries on job interviews and charity websites.

A punchier and perhaps more convincing article is How to Convince Your Employer or Teacher to Adopt Web Standards. This talks directly to the business in terms they understand: profitability. Arguments are compelling and presented without flannel, so the point is hammered home, but the concepts themselves aren’t ground breaking: limit your website setup and maintenance costs in turn maximising return on investment and your business’ profit.

Anyone not yet convinced by the need to adopt web standards should read this article. If you’re not, then your not interested in the prosperity of your business.
