Want to protect your kids when they’re online?

Then try Glubble. It’s a plugin for Firefox that allows parents to control what their children see (or don’t see) when surfing.

From what I understand, the service enables a parent to opt-in to sites called Glubbles that they trust and see as fit for their children’s consumption. But fear not, you don’t have to go around setting them all up from scratch, there’s a series of pre-approved Glubbles for you to choose an activate as you see fit. Sites included are Lego, Cartoon Network, Disney and suchlike.

The usage of this does not only sit within the home. Clearly there are opportunities for use in schools and nurseries. But they’ve thought of everything. In conjunction with the search engines they’ve produced “safe” versions that return only approved results. There’s also a request approval option enabling the child to ask you for permission to access a certain site.

No worries! You might also like to look at Open DNS, which gives you greater control over what everyone sees via your network connection. Good at home, great for small businesses.

    Hi Rob,

Yeah, I have dabbled with OpenDNS a bit, but mainly just for replacement DNS servers when my ISP ones have gone dodgy! Will be sure to check it out in more detail. Cheers.
