The secret to keeping customers up-to-date is via RSS

1st of May was RSS day which was about promoting understanding of RSS and the benefits it can bring to website managers and their consumers.
What is RSS?
For those who don’t know what RSS is, here’s the definition from the site:
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format used to deliver information from websites and pages that get updated regularly.
The video that goes with the website is a piece of genius in it’s own right, that serves as a lesson to anyone looking to create their own web- or podcast. It delivers the information in an easy to understand and logical way without too much technical jargon.
Why use RSS?
I regular read over 150 websites which all publish new content somewhere between daily and monthly depending on the site. The most efficient way for me to track new content on each site is to use RSS, which in my case is fed into Google Reader. Without it I’d be spending 5 or 6 times as much time navigating round all of these sites regardless of whether they’d updated the content or not. This way any news items are sent straight for me to read, either within the reader or via a link to the source item.
The other massive advantage is for website managers. There is not more cost effective way of getting new content straight to your prospects and customers than via RSS. Email is cheap, but can still costs money. Paper is getting more expensive and there’s no guarantee it will get there let alone be read.
Using RSS is a no-brainer
Relying on people to stop by your site on the off chance is futile. Even if your visitors don’t use RSS you can educate them using the content on RSS Day and in turn you’ll be doing yourself and your business a favour.
