So you’ve decided you need a website…now what? (Part1)

You’ve taken the plunge and convinced yourself that a website is the way forward. Great idea…but what now? Why do you want it? What need will it service? How are you going to use? Well here’s part 1 of my thoughts on why, what and how.

There are a series of questions you need to ask yourself and your business, some of which I’ve listed here. These aren’t in any kind of order and should all be looked at as part of the same process.

What do you want your website to do? Might seem like a daft question, but seriously take some time to think about what your goals are. What sort of information do you want online?

How are you going to measure success? Once you’ve established your goals, you need to set out a series of measures. Without these you won’t be able to say if the site was a success or not.

How will your site align or add value to your brand? Maybe this is one of your goals, but you still need to consider how your website will relate to your other customer facing activities. For example, does it look like your brochure and can customers expect the same service via the website as if they went direct?

Who are your target audience? By understanding who they are and what their needs are you can clearly define what you site needs to offer.
