Owning a hammer does not make me a builder…

…but apparently owning some design software does make someone a website designer! Freelance Freedom at FreelanceSwitch has done a great cartoon on a very serious issue which has been bugging me for a while.
There’s plenty of people out in the world who have bought a copy of Dreamweaver or suchlike and call themselves a website designer. It makes me sick, not because I’m precious or anything, more to do with the fact that I’ve take the time to learn this trade (and am still learning) and how to do things the right way.
There are no quick wins in this life, however until the general public is educated to what makes a good design(er) or website, they will continue to receive and pay for sub-standard, horrid looking websites. Where’s our industry watchdog then hunting “rogue traders”?
