New uses for old things

Warning: tentative web related story follows!

It’s funny how old things end up being used in new ways. Jon Hicks has recently moved offices into the old RAF base at Little Rissington in Gloucestershire (aside - Tally Ho! is now my new desktop).

This is cool and weird in a couple of ways. Old buildings nearly always make cool offices, especially ones with an illustrious past - apparently it has a secret underground hospital design by the USAF to withstand nuclear attack during the Cold War.

Also I went gliding there when I was in the Air Training Corps - a failed attempt at overcoming my fear of heights. Knowing that two of the county’s leading web designers (Jon Hicks and John Oxton) are there, both of whom I respect and admire, is just plain cool.

We should make better use of our old airfields, as we’ve done with RAF Quedgeley near Gloucester, and not let them decay, like RAF Chedworth. They served us well in the past and it would be remiss not to let them serve us in the future.

    Ooooo…nurses…hadn’t thought of that!

Local…kind of. In Tewkesbury, which isn’t a million miles away. I used to live a lot closer though, in Northleach, just off the A40.
