Accessibility? Because It?s Our Job!

I’ve been pondering a topic for sometime: why do clients need accessibility? My personal view is that as a professional I am here to give my clients the best possible service and with that comes adopting the right approaches to website building.

Accessibility is something I feel should be a built-in feature of any website, much like the usage of web standards, semantic code and usability. Hiring a professional should bring with it certain industry standards and quality assurance techniques that other persons would lack. Evidence of this comes form the web being flooded with poor quality, inaccessible websites built on the cheap and on the fly.

Over at Sitepoint, James Edwards has made a very valid point along the lines of my recent thinking:

“We should make an effort to create accessible content, because it?s part of our job.”

The article serves to remind us all why we should make accessible websites that use web standards and are easy to use.
