Foxmarks

by Rob Mason ~ November 26th, 2008

Foxmarks is a brilliant little plugin for Firefox that lets you synchronise your bookmarks across multiple computers. Great as a backup, but even better if you have multiple computers that you wish to access the same bookmarks on. Not only that but assuming you remember your username and password you can logon to Foxmark’s website and access your bookmarks from anywhere in the world!

Blue Beanie Day 2008

by Rob Mason ~ November 20th, 2008

Me in a Blue Beanie hat In support of web standards, we’re nearing this year’s Blue Beanie Day. Show you support by taking a photo of you (or someone else) in a blue beanie hat and posting to the Flick group.

For those not in the know, the Blue Beanie has become synonymous with the web standards movement thanks to Jeffrey Zeldman’s seminal classic Designing with Web Standards, now into it’s second edition. That’s him on the front cover by the way :)

Very useful article on Best Practices for Determining Content Density for Websites by farfromfearless. The title sounds very highbrow, but in essence what Chris Murphy is saying is here’s a rule of thumb to help make the best use of space when writing copy and essentially to not write too much.

Underwear showing - Websites that forgot to specify a background color

by Rob Mason ~ November 10th, 2008

Websites that forgot to specify a background color.

It’s surprising how many web designers forget to specify a background color. To check for this, set your browser’s default background color to magenta, or something equally piquant. Then visit websites. You may be surprised.

Zeldman doing his usual top notch thing in pointing out the bleeding obvious, so I’ve done a quick run down of some of the top financial institution websites in the UK caught with their knickers showing. A sad state of affairs and one I’m thankfully not guilty of!
