Microsoft…serious about the web?

Like buses, you wait bloody years for a new version if Internet Explorer and ‘lo and behold two come along in as many years!

Microsoft has announced plans for IE8. Looks like Molly has been doing sterling work convincing the powers that be at Microsoft to really take this internet thing seriously.

Not much news on exactly what it’s going to be or do, but the smart bets are on a more sympathetic approach to web standards and security, something previous versions have never truly grasped. Also fixing the bugs would be nice. Maybe then some of the views of IE may change, for example.

Time will tell whether this is any better than the previous version, but I won’t hold my breath. For now I’ll stick with good ‘ol Firefox. If you want a choice and reason why you should change, try Browse Happy.

UPDATE 14th DEC: looks like Microsoft could have their hand forced if this legal action from Opera comes to something.
